Some Good News and Some Bad News!

Alexander500_1127 I have lived in the State Of Washington for 17 years now, and it has taken most of that time to become a genuine Seahawks fan.  You see, during high school  I lived in the San Francisco area for a number of years and got to witness the 49ers as they developed an awesome dynasty.  Joe Montana, Dwight Clark, Ronnie Lott, Jerry Rice, Keena Turner etc...!  I got very spoiled to say the least.

Since I moved to Washington, I have had to endure watching Seattle sports teams break their fan´s hearts over and over again. Somehow I determined ´twas better to flirt than make any commitment.  To love is to hurt.  To commit myself to the Seahawks was to prepare for the "Dear John letter" to come.

After all, I watched the Sonics win 64 games in 1996 only to be beaten by the Jordan-led Bulls in the finals.  Wouldn't you know the Sonics would have to face the greatest team in NBA history the year the Bulls would set a new record for the most wins in a season!  Soon after, the Mariners equaled the greatest regular season in MLB history by winning 116 games and then promptly losing to the hated Yankees in the playoffs.  Last year, I remember watching the Seahawks melt down against the Rams in  the fourth quarter of a regular season game and then go on to complete that process in the playoffs.  Could this year be any different?  Well, I think I am finally "getting serious" because I am actually starting to imagine the Hawks in the Superbowl this year.

I have been following these Alexander-led Hawks while down here in Mexico and I can say I think we have some good news and some bad news for fans everywhere.  First the good news.  The Hawks are winning games they had the amazing ability to lose last year.  They held on against the 49ers, and then won a squeaker against a Giants team intent on losing.  The New York fans now know what it feels like to be a Seahawks fan for a change!

The bad news must come though, so here it is.  There is nobody right now that can or will stop the Indianapolis Colts as they march undefeated to the Superbowl and establish themselves as the greatest individual season team in history.  I have watched them play several times now, and I can honestly say that they are the best team I have seen since my Joe Montana Niner days.  Peyton Manning is far and away the best quarterback in football and on his way to becoming one of the greatest ever.  So, we have the privilege of watching our Seahawks peak right when Indianapolis is going to make history.

Peytonmanning A couple weeks from now, these two teams will meet on the field, and after the Hawks have been humbled as everybody else has, we will be content to sit back and play for second best.  I know, I must be getting old, for cynicism has taken hold where fan-faith used to dwell.  I can see the "Dear John letter" now.

Were going to vanquish the Eagles on Monday Night Football, spank your 49ers @ Quest field and punish the Titans who will have already been hammered by your Colts next Sunday. These important victories will make us stronger.
Then were going to wrap a present. The Indianapolis Colts will have the unpleasant privilege on Christmas Eve of unwrapping and opening a can of "Whoop-Butt" with an expired pull-date. So sad. A perfect season comes to a painfully depressing end in Seattle. The loss is especially disappointing because it lays a precident for when the two teams replay the same outcome in Super Bowl XL. Not even Mick Jaggers big lips (half time show) will be able to articulate the crushing Payton's Colts will endure before being led back to the barn where they can heal and admit, "We were beat by the best team in the NFL, the Seattle Seahawks." So let it be written. So let it be done.

  2. Jim,
I really admire your blind faith! Come on, you know as well as I do that Seattle did not "win" the game against the Giants, but NY lost that game. The Giants are nothing compared to Indianapolis.
I will be pulling for the Seahawks, but my heart says be careful and don´t get too excited. If the Hawks beat the Colts or at least keep it real tight, then I MAY BE OPEN TO MIRACLES! I want to believe, I really do!

  5. BTW - You don't have to miss Jim Zorns, Marc... He's there every game. He's Matt's coach.(Quarterback coach for the Seahawks).

  6. You know what I find to be sad here? How all of the good positive posts from the preacher man get 2,3,4,5 comments maybe. Then he posts one about Football. 8,9,10 comments.... What's wrong with that? Is it just me?
So now that the obvious has been stated... on to um.. Football!
The Seahawks are for real this year. The last time they were this lopsided in their record, 1999 I think under Kitna, their schedule in the first half was weak, and they were barely winning the games. I remember watching the games and knowing that it was going to come crashing down. They just weren't a good team. This year the whole feel is different. I think good things will come of this. However- the best thing about football is summed up in a phrase. "any given sunday"
Take care down there, miss ya.

  7. Oh, and the Giants didn't 'not win' that game. It was a divine intervention to prevent a travesty of officiating. I mean come on. 3 missed field goals in a row? That NEVER happens :)
The team gets no respect. When they spank the Eagles tonight, it will be because TO and McNabb were not playing. When the snap the Colts undefeated streak it will be because Indy sat players preparing for the playoffs. I'm tellin ya right now that is crap.
That was another 2 cents, can I get a refund?

  10. Hear me my friends!
I am as excited as any of you about our beloved Hawks and their success! I know that anything can happen and that Indy is not beyond being beat, BUT I still think they are just too good.
The hawks don't have a consistent offense. Their "D" is great, but Peyton Manning won't make the mistakes all these jokers from The Eagles were making last night. It will be a good game which I hope the Hawks win, but I still think Indy's just got too much of everything!
    Come on Hawks!

  11. 41-3 - I was there! Electric I tell ya :) Hawks have now outscored their opponents 83-3 in the last 2 weeks. Muwhahahahahaha. Most excellent. SF managed a measly 113 yards of TOTAL offense. It's starting to get tasty.
Did I mention that I have playoff tickets :)

  12. 1. Seahawks win a tough game in Tennessee. (10th in a row!)
    2. Colts devastated at home by a desperate San Diego Chargers!
    3. Indianapolis will want to regain momentum next week in Seattle.
    4. Hawks will probably still be playing for home field advantage.
    5. Where will you be for the game?
Go Hawks! Bring the "whOOp Butt!" Bring it!
